Troubleshooting

Below are a few simple tips you can try before calling that may help if you are having trouble with your air conditioning system out of normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm). If you any problem persists, please phone our office on (02) 9531 7462 for assistance

The air conditioner won't turn on

Reset your system by going to your fuse box and turning off the air conditioning at circuit breaker or power supply. Wait half hour, then turn the circuit breaker or power supply back on. Go to your air conditioning system and turn the unit on at the control panel or remote control.

If the unit still won't turn on

  1. Check the batteries in the remote control (split system only).
  2. Check that the correct cooling or heating mode has been selected. (i.e. on certain models the sun icon is the correct setting for heating or the snowflake icon for cooling – if in doubt select “A” for automatic setting. Check your instruction manual for correct settings for heating and cooling).
  3. Check if the timer setting is on and is it on the correct timer setting.

Heating & Cooling issues

  • Check that the correct cooling or heating mode has been selected. (i.e. on certain models the sun icon is the correct setting for heating or the snowflake icon for cooling – if in doubt select “A” for automatic setting).
  • Has the appropriate temperature settings been selected? (i.e. 22-23 degrees is usually comfortable for most people).
  • Are the filters clean? Filters need to be cleaned at least at the change of every season or more often during times of high use (i.e. during a hot summer). Dirty filters will reduce airflow to the room and increase the running cost of the unit.
  • Is there anything blocking the airflow from the indoor fan coil (i.e. bookcase/wall unit in the way) or outside at the outdoor unit (leaves, papers, plants etc)? If so clear all debris away from outdoor unit.
Are the windows and doors closed?

Dripping water (split system indoor unit)

  • Are the filters clean? On the cool setting, very dirty filters may eventually freeze and then drip when the unit is turned off and the dirty filters defrost. Filters need to be cleaned at least at the change of every season or more often during times of high use (ie during a hot summer). Dirty filters will also reduce airflow to the room and increase the running cost of the unit.
  • Check that the drain hose from the indoor unit to the outside drain is not blocked as water may back up from the outside drain to the indoor unit. If the drain hose is installed to the downpipe, please check that the downpipe is not blocked as the water may back up from the downpipe to the drain hose and then back to the indoor fan coil.

Noisy indoor fan coil unit/return air grille

Check if the filters on the ducted return air grille are dirty as the return air grille may make a whistling noise if the filters are dirty. If the filters are dirty wash the filter in the laundry sink or take outside and gently hose the filter with water and let the filter dry in the sun before replacing the filter in the return air grille.

Unpleasant odours

Check if the filters are dirty as the filters absorb all smells from within the home, especially cooking smells and cigarette smoke. If the filters are dirty or odorous, then wash the filter in the laundry sink or take the filter outside and wash the filter with mild dishwashing detergent. Once washed, gently hose the filter and let it dry in the sun before replacing the filter in the split system indoor fan coil or ducted system return air grille.

Inconsistent temperatures in ducted zones

Try testing the zones by turning each zone off and then on to see if there is air flowing from the diffusers in that particular zone. If it feels like there is little or no air blowing out of the diffusers contact our office as the zone may either be faulty or an air balance between the different zones may be required.
